Somewhere Over the Rainbow

I've been burning up my sewing machine lately. I recently read an article in the paper where our local homeless mission is in need of some items. I've always wanted to help out at the mission, but just never took the time to do it. I have enjoyed helping out at the Salvation Army food kitchen in the past, but working out of town doesn't allow time for that anymore either.

I have also been trying to reduce my fabric stash and have given away hundreds of yards of fabric to non-profits and others that are willing to use it to make things for those in need.

That's when the ah-ha moment hit me - I can make pillowcases for the shelter which will reduce my fabric stash and help fulfill the shelter wish-list for bed linens.

Sometimes, all we have to do is click our heels ( like Dorothy) and realize, "There's no place like home". Everything we need is right before us....we just need to take the time to see it.

What talents do you have that you could put to use to help others. Take a look around and there you will find everything you need, right before you.

OOPS!

Where did the week go? I have been pre-occupied with trying to "not be sick" that I forgot to post last Sunday!

And now I'm going to be away for the next 2 weeks, so I better not post anything tomorrow.

Maybe I'll post something right before I return home, so that I can deliver it when I get back. I'm going to find some good novelty/themed fabric.

My attempt at staying health this week failed...I've been sick most of the week and had to take a day off work...don't like doing that! I'm kind of in the middle getting over this cold/flu/congestion stuff. I'm so ready to be done with it.

Courage does not always soar. Sometimes it is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, "I'll try again tomorrow".

Busy as a Bee

This week has just passed by so quickly. Was a little under the weather for most of the week, but did my best to keep going.

Spent the entire day today with my mother at a craft show. The two of us and my grandmother use to always do craft shows together. My grandmother passed away last year, and I think her death caused my mother and I to shy away from doing as many crafts as we have previously done. The sewing room kind of reminds us of my grandma. My mom still had alot of knitted and sewn items pre-made, so we took her totes down and spent the day together.

It's fun to be able to just hang out with your mom! The day passed so quickly. My daughter and my grandsons stopped out and did a little shopping and then help us pack up. It's great to have young, eager and energetic kids to help do the busy work. They were our busy bees for the day.

I found a few people on-line, through my conversing this week, that are the recipients of my latest fabric giveaway.

I also, managed to place free fabric in random boxes this week as I sent out my ebay sales. Hopefully, the recipients will find a good use for them and be thankful. Shipping is so expensive these days, it's almost ashamed to send out a less than full box when the postage rate is the same either way.

Tomorrow I will post some new fabrics....haven't decided what theme I'd like to select. I guess it will just have to be a surprise. Until then, be good and stay safe.

What a Beautiful Day!

This morning I was blessed to take my neighborhood kids to church again. We had six kids join us this morning. They were excited to get to ride in the church van...so much more room than in the backseat of a little car! Isn't it wonderful how the amazement of a child can make everything better!

As I've been going thru things in my house, I've come to realize, I have way more than I even thought I had. So this is going to be a big adventure to get this stuff moved and cleaned out. But I'm up for the challenge.

I've dug out some holiday fabric for this week's giveaway. Since Christmas will be here before you know it, I thought someone might like a little bit of Christmas print to make those last minute items.

Keep your requests coming and I'll keep the fabric coming.

Email me at dbbeas@yahoo.com with your requests.

If It's Free, Why Aren't People Happy To Receive It...

Okay, maybe I'm not meant to be back in the "big black" market of selling on eBay. I figured I'd give fabric away here on this blogspot and also give fabric away when people purchased items from me. In addition to that, I would also donate to one of my most favorite not-for-profit charities, www.modestneeds.org

Let me interrupt for a brief "plug"....If you haven't been to the Modest Needs website, go check it out. Take the time to read some of the Profiles in Courageous Generosity listed in the Weekly Columns link....they will move your heart!

Back to our regularly scheduled programming....haaa
It's been a few years since I've sold anything out there, so naturally my "guesstimates" on postage have been really LOW...thus causing me a LOSS. However, people still want to request lower shipping rates. GAD!....Maybe it is just easier to give it away free on my blogspot and to heck with eBay.

I'm already selling the fabric for practically 75% off the list price...yet, they feel I'm cheating them. I've dealt with more grouchy people on eBay this past week, than I've ever talked to in my life. If my mission in life is to "learn" to deal with grouchy people, I definitely took the final exam this week. I believe I handled it most appropriately and even made them all happy in the end.

Life is tough...and then we add more chaos to it....Simple is better - that's all I have to say.

Back to my topic at hand for the week.
This week's fabric is going to go to my Adrian Senior Center ladies since they specifically requested the "all-over small print" and solid color fabrics. I'm also sending some to Carla who works with the kitchen staff at the Senior Center. She and I went to school together - it was really good to see her. That's what I like about personally deliverying the fabric...you never know who you are going to run into. She is going to have the fabric made into aprons for the kitchen staff. I'm trying to dig up some holiday prints for you Carla.

Life is good - even after the squabbles this week - I can still say LIFE IS GOOD.

More fabric will be posted on tomorrow. If you are interested in it, send me an email with the subject line FREE FABRIC GIVEAWAY and information about your not-for-profit group, church, or organization and let me know what you would do with the fabric if it were given to you. I will personally deliver it to you if you life in town and preference does go to my local community. However, out of towners can still submit, but you will have to pay the postage costs. Did I See Snow....

Yup...there it was this morning....on my drive to work. The snowflakes in the headlights were pretty, but I didn't like em!

I love winter and don't mind the cold - I just don't like driving in the snow. But ready or not, it's a coming.

I've talk to alot of people this week about my fabric. The possibilities are expanding - and that's a good thing. I've started to sell off some of the fabric too. Ebay use to be a fun hobby and I did it all the time. But that was years ago. I signed back in last week to post some fabric and I felt like a child learning how to ride a bike. It took a few tries, but just like riding a bike, you never really forget how to do it. So off I go to posting a few more items. Happy Thursday....Friday is just around the corner - yippee!

This Week's Fabric

Today is a good day! Had a wonderful morning at church - got to bring a few of the neighborhood kids and another friend. They all love coming to church with me and I enjoy bringing them. I surprised them all and stopped for happy meals on the way home. Nothing like watching the excitement in the eyes of a child.

Here are the fabrics up for grab this week. I had a request for smaller print and all-over patterns, so that is the listing for this week. Let me know if you are looking for a particular type of fabric and I'll dig deep into my sewing studio to see what I can find.

...on a small, less important note...I have no idea why the underline feature has decided to appear on my blog today - how did the underline feature get turned on? And more importantly, how do I turn it off??....Maybe it will be back to normal the next time I sign on. Until then, don't let the extra things in life drag you down.
